Today, I saw the release of Whoopi Goldberg’s new book titled, “Is it Just Me?”  I haven’t read her book and really can’t comment on how good it is, but I do know some of what she put in there.  I believe Whoopi comments on things that are “pet peeves” to her.

Right after hearing her talk about her new book, I saw a commercial for a well know cosmetic and skin care brand for women.  You may have seen the commercial, as it has been airing for the last few months.  Is it just me, or does it seem odd that we’ve just allowed that commercial to penetrate our living rooms with out so much as a “Is it just me, or does it seem just wrong that they are using a female role model that is outwardly gay and even dresses in clothing that looks like a man?”  to be the company’s icon for commercials?

It is amazing to me how this skewed gender role has crept into our society as okay.  I think it is because this female has a very popular talk show and is fairly funny in the way she approaches things.  I don’t seem to think it’s at all appropriate to put her on the add for women’s make-up.  However, advertisers know best, what reaches America.  I just think it’s pretty funny, how subdued we’ve become.

I encourage all of us today to take a look at our own lives and see how things have “crept in” that shouldn’t be there.  Right now I’m thinking of all the clutter I’ve let creep in to my home.  So, I’m off to de-clutter my home.  Have a most glorious day!
