The following in an exert from American Values President, Gary L. Bauer.  A funny unknown connection –  since my Father’s Paternal Grandmother’s last name was Bauer and we just had a Bauer Reunion this summer, it seems fitting I share Mr. Bauer’s report with you.  Not to mention had my Great Grandmother not stayed married to Great Grandfather, I may not be posting this at all.   We must defend marriage.

                                 Why A Federal Marriage Amendment Is Necessary

On Meet The Press yesterday one of the leading Republican presidential candidates declared his opposition to a federal marriage amendment, and suggested that the states should be allowed to decide the issue for themselves.

America will not have 50 different definitions of marriage. Either normal marriage will be the standard in every state or we will lose the institution of marriage as it has been understood for several thousand years.

Any politician who invokes a “states’ rights” response to the meaning of marriage is either uninformed or disingenuous. When it comes to same-sex “marriage,” the left will not permit each state to decide. It plans to have the federal courts order every state to recognize the same-sex “marriages” performed in other states. When that happens — Voila! — we’ll have nationwide same-sex “marriage.”

The Defense of Marriage Act prevents this from happening — for now. But as we know, the Obama Administration has declared DOMA unconstitutional and is refusing to defend it in court. If the Defense of Marriage Act is struck down, there will be nothing preventing a left-wing judge from ordering Georgia to recognize the “gay marriages” performed in Massachusetts. Only a federal marriage amendment can prevent liberal judges from redefining marriage for all 50 states.

I think back on how easily prayer slipped OUT of schools and it sends me to my knees to plead on behalf of GOD’S DESIGN FOR MARRIAGE to be lived out in America for many more years to come.  We work daily to help individuals and couples understand God’s design for marriage.  Hence, our tag line for the ministry Helping Marriages Reach Their God Given Design.

Won’t you pray with me this week to defend marriage in America?

Dear Lord, 

Please hear our prayers and help each of us stand up for the defense of marriage and let our states be united in understanding that we must come together as one.  Our founding father’s started and built our great country on –  Government, Marriages, Family and the Church.  Help our country to keep marriage as God designed it, one man and one woman for a lifetime.
